Fort Augustus

These two Nissen huts in Fort Augustus are said to have been used in WWII for transferring ammunition from the railway line which runs immediately behind them.  It was said they were Army but two sources say there was a Royal Navy Armaments Depot in Fort Augustus so it seems possible that this was what they were.

We have not been able to find out why there was a RNAD in Fort Augustus though.  There is talk of torpedo trials in Loch Ness during WWII and also a “frame” having been found on the bottom of the loch by Nessie Hunters.

I would be very interested to hear any information on this site.
