Corpach was used to import mines from the USA and then ship through the Caledonian Canal to Inverness.  1500 mines a week arrived.  It was protected a coastal gun battery at Corran.  The headquarters for the detachment was in Corpach and there was a American YMCA hut there also.

THE YANKS

After being with us for about ten months, our American sailor friends have left for another station.  We will miss them sadly, for they made themselves very popular.  In nearly every house, one or more of them was sure to be found when on liberty.  They were very sorry to go.  But as they said to themselves, every fresh order brings “Lil Ole New York” a bit nearer.  We wish them every good wish.
