HMS St Christopher & Norway

We have received a copy of this letter from Stephen Downes-Martin.

I have a letter dated 3rd July 1942 "for" Commanding Officer H.M.S. St. Christoper to my Grandfather requesting that any assistance required by my Grandfather be provided by Naval Officers in charge of Naval Ports.  The letter refers to his Yacht Risor.  At the time my Grandfather was smuggling people into and out of Nazi held Norway.  I also have a photo of the Risor.

The “for COMMANDER, RN” means that someone signed the letter for the Commander (who was the Commanding Officer) who was unable to do so, for some reason. The person who signed it would have been one of his assistants.
